A funeral Mass will be said at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Croghan with Rev. Donald Manfred, Pastor officiating with a meal following in the parish hall. There will be a calling hour from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the Mass at church. Contributions in Jeanie’s name may be made to St, Stephen’s Church, P.O. Box 38, Croghan, NY 13327.
She is survived by her closest niece, Valerie Terry (Dennis) Pridell, who is her God daughter and spent the most time with Jean; their two children, Noah and Chandler Pridell who Jean very much adored and looked forward to spending every free moment with; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Eleanor Ver Schneider Terry; two brothers, Leslie and Kenneth Ver Schneider; and many other aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Jean was born on December 1, 1930 at home on the Ver Schneider homestead in Croghan, the daughter of the late Leland and Maude Jaycox Ver Schneider. She attended Father Leo Memorial Catholic School in Croghan and was a homemaker for many years.
Jeanie enjoyed decorating cookies for churches and firehalls, knitting, crocheting, playing accordion and piano, singing in the women’s choir, dances, card parties, following her cousin’s band, “The Adirondack Playboys”, and bingo at the church hall, where she was known for bringing ham salad sandwiches to that everyone loved. She had an eye for photography and fashion and loved to follow current events on the news. Jeanie always gave her input on how she could make a difference, being strong and doing good things for her loved ones all of her life.
She was a Communicant of her home church in Croghan, St. Stephen’s and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Jeanie was devoted to her faith and reading the Bible was one of her main interests. She was a member of the Grange, where she achieved many degrees and levels of accomplishment. Within the Grange, she enjoyed the meetings, events, and activities. Jean also volunteered at the Lowville Library for some time too.
