CROGHAN – Janice D. Kampnich, 64, of State Route 812, passed away on Friday morning, August 7, 2020 at Lewis County General Hospital.
A funeral Mass for family and close friends will be said at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2020 with Rev. Donald Manfred, Pastor, officiating. Social distancing and masks are required. Burial will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Croghan. There are no calling hours. Contributions may be made in Janice’s name to Croghan Fire Department Auxiliary, P.O. Janice is survived by her husband Paul; two sons, John P. Kampnich of Croghan; and Timothy M. Kampnich, at home; and a beloved grandson, James Kampnich; seven siblings, and their spouses, Elizabeth and Tom Polarolo of New Hartford; Geraldine and Michael Woolschlager of Lowville; her twin, Janet and Stephen Roberts of Prospect, Connecticut; Bruce Young of Brantingham; Joyce and Rod Mallette of Florida; Charles Young of Glenfield; James and Cynthia Young of Lyons Falls; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by a sister, Elaine Young; and a sister-in-law, Susan Young.
Janice was born January 20, 1956 in Lowville, NY, a daughter of the late Stanley H. Young Jr. and Clare E. Bockenheim Young. She attended St. Peter’s School, Lowville Academy, and graduated from South Lewis Central School in 1974. She worked for Lewis County General Hospital and Lewis County Co-Operative Extension. On September 19, 1992, she married Paul N. Kampnich at St. Mary’s Church, West Leyden with Rev. Alfred Fish officiating. Together with her husband, the couple owned and operated a dairy farm on State Route 812, Croghan for many years.
Janice was a communicant of St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan. She loved to make pies, she enjoyed the outdoors and nature, and most of all she loved spending time with her family.
