TURIN – Gladys J. Lane, 91, of State Route 26, passed away early Thursday morning, November 20, 2025, at her home, under the loving care of her family and Lewis County Hospice.
She is survived by a son, Steven B. Lane of Turin; four grandchildren, Stephanie Lane; Ryan (Johnna) Lane and their daughter, Makenna; Amanda Heubner-Lane; Kyl Heubner-Lane; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, George K. Lane Jr., who passed away on December 1, 2015; a daughter, Lisa J. Heubner-Lane, who passed away in December 2010; two brothers, Edward Barniak Sr. (Elon); Henry (Shirley) Barniak; two sisters, Emelia McGregor and Anastasia “Stella” Bruner.
Gladys was born on July 11, 1934 at home in the Town of Turin, NY, a daughter of the late Walter and Katherine Szewczyk Barniak. She graduated from General Martin High School in the Class of 1952. On June 6, 1953, she married George K. Lane Jr. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Glenfield. Together with her husband, the couple owned and operated the family dairy farm until their retirement in 1999. After farming, Gladys was well known while working for Walmart in Lowville for 13 years. She retired from Walmart in 2020.
Gladys enjoyed gardening, landscaping, cooking, baking, and refinishing old furniture. She was the family historian. Gladys had a gift for decorating and found great enjoyment in beautifying of her home.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Houseville Cemetery. Gladys has generously donated her body to the Anatomical Gift Program at SUNY Upstate Medical University, Syracuse. Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.
