LOWVILLE- Gary Frederick LaVancha, 75, of East Martinsburg Road, passed away early Sunday morning at Crouse Hospital, Syracuse, surrounded by his loving family.
In keeping with Gary’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Sunday July 13, 2025 at Lewis County Marine Corps League, 7429 State Route 12, Lowville, all are welcome. Any food donations may be taken directly to the Marine Corps League on Saturday evening, July 12, 2025 or Sunday, July 13, 2025 starting at 10:00 a.m.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years and best friend, Denise “Odee”; four children, Terry (Marcy) LaVancha of La Fargeville, Joseph (Karen) LaVancha of Homer, René Tuttle and her fiancé Bruce Martin of Richland, Brandie (Toby) Bennett of Mexico; 12 grandchildren; Jordan, Paige, Dakota, Caleb, Gary, Jackson, Jenna, Kiersten, Katelyn, Andrew, Cooper and Karter; four great-granddaughters, Aubri, Gabriela Joy, Paislee, and Hazel; nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by a grandson, William F. Tuttle; three brothers, Robert LaVancha, Paul Joseph LaVancha, and Francis LaVancha; four sisters, Mary Monica, Peg Sprague, Cecelia LaVancha, and Bridgette Cannan.
Gary was born on April 17, 1950 in Watertown, NY, a son of the late Maurice and Caroline LaFlair LaVancha and attended Carthage Central School. After his schooling, he worked for Porterdale Farms, and on Harold Overton’s farm in Smithville. On October 19, 1968, he married Denise M. Curtis at Asbury United Methodist Church in Watertown with Rev. Charles Clarke officiating. He then worked for Burville Saw Mill, Krakau Implements, Sandy Creek, and Widrick Implements/Cazenovia Equipment, Lowville, where he remained until his retirement in 2015. Gary enjoyed fishing and stock car races in his younger years. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. His favorite past-time was mowing his lawn.
