BEAVER FALLS- Cleveland E. “Cleve” Garrison Jr., 78, formerly of NYS Route 126, passed away at Lewis County General Hospital on Monday, January 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by his two children, Wendell (Bernadette) Garrison of Lowville and Gale (Andy) Grunert of Croghan; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Randy (Linda) Garrison of Monticello, and David Garrison of Beaver Falls; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by two sisters-in-law, Kelly M. Garrison and Sharon Garrison; one grandson, Michael J. Garrison; and a brother, Charles H. Garrison.

Cleveland was born on October 25, 1946 in Lowville, NY, a son of the late Cleveland E. Garrison Sr. and Caroline Wakefield Garrison.  He attended Beaver River Central School where he was a proud player of the varsity basketball team coached by Bob Giordano.  He married Mary Jane Zehr, the couple later divorced.  A later marriage to the former Cheryl Hanno ended in divorce.  Cleve worked for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in Dadville.  For many years, he was a deputy sheriff at the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department and a Court Officer at the Lewis County Court House.  He also drove school bus for Beaver River Central School.  Cleve became a brown belt martial artist and later went on to be an instructor.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing but, above all else, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Cleve was of the Christian faith and attended church.  He was a member of Mullin’s Pond hunting club.

The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 10, 2025 at Croghan Mennonite Church with a meal to follow, all are welcome.  Calling hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral service at the church.  Spring burial will be in the Croghan Mennonite Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Cleveland’s name to the Rainbow Community at Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility, 7785 N. State Street, Lowville, NY 13367.
