NEW BREMEN- Carol Ann LaValley, 79, of Snell Road, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at her home.
Carol was born on December 24, 1940 in Harrisonburg, VA, a daughter of the late Albert Theodore and Hazel Lee Caracofe Hardy. The family moved to Carthage in 1947. Carol was married to Lawrence Joseph Hamblin in 1957, the marriage ended in divorce in 1963. She married Kurtis William LaValley on July 9, 1968, and celebrated 43 years of marriage before he passed away on October 3, 2011. Carol had worked at many jobs in her life including Model Home Accessories in Watertown, Hardy’s Restaurant in Burrville, Hongo’s Restaurant in Carthage, Cohen’s Store in Lowville, Beaverite in Beaver Falls, J.P. Lewis, Climax in Castorland. She was elected the first female Town Justice in the Town of New Bremen in 1990, serving 4 ½ years before opening Pond Effects Tavern in New Bremen in 1994. She served as secretary and bookkeeper for her husband’s business LaValley Heating, retiring in 2005.
Carol is survived by three daughters, Brigit Bruce and her companion Daryl Lehman of New Bremen, Michelle Lehman of Clayton, Renee and John Elliott of Watertown, a son, Kurtis LaValley of Carthage; grandchildren, two great grand-daughters; two brothers, Raymond “Bert” Hardy, Sr. of Carthage; and Richard and Mary Ann Hardy Sr. of Welsley Island; two sisters, Nancy and Donald Wilder of TN and Glenfield; Cindy Weir of Six Mile, SC; nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Kurtis; and two sisters, Mary and Cathy Hardy Hale; and a brother, Albert “Buster” Hardy Jr.
A calling hour will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc. A private funeral service for the family will be held with Pastor Wayne Arnold officiating. A graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 in Fairview Cemetery Carthage. Contributions may be made to the New Bremen Fire Department, NYS Route 812, Lowville, NY 13367.
Carol loved to travel with her husband, other family, and her special friends, Gary and Linda Bush. She also loved her pets.
