COPENHAGEN- Anthony “Tony” Petrus Jr, 83, of River Road, passed away July 6, 2024 at his home, under the loving care of his family and Lewis County Hospice.
There are no calling hours or funeral services. Burial will be in Lowville Rural Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Tony is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Ethel; one daughter, Brenda (David) Monroe of Oswego, one son, Dennis “Gunner” (Judy) Petrus, of Barnes Corners; one daughter-in-law, Rhonda Petrus of Copenhagen; 4 step-sons, Jeff (Lori) Snyder of Copenhagen; Shawn (Wendy) Snyder of Lowville; Jason Snyder of Copenhagen; Brian (Amy) Snyder of Boonville; a brother, Steve (Dawn) Petrus of Copenhagen: a sister, Jeanie Petrus Paro of Adams; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents; a son in 2015, David W. Petrus; and a step-daughter in 2007, Jennifer Hoganson.
He was born April 30, 1941, a son of the late Anthony and Anna Repak Petrus Sr. Tony graduated from Copenhagen Central School and then went on to operate his own dairy farm for many years. From 1972 to 1982, he owned and operated Tony’s Sales and Service, a Polaris dealership where he sold and serviced snowmobiles. He also owned and operated two other businesses through the years: Tony’s Trucking and Tony’s Truck Parts. On December 21, 1991, he married the former Ethel Goutermout.
Tony enjoyed tractor pulling for many years, along with playing his fiddle in a country band. Above all, he enjoyed the time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
