LOWVILLE-A. “Tammy” Lehman, 65, passed away at her home on Monday, May 20, 2024, under the loving care of her family and Lewis County Hospice after a battle with cancer.
She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Walter; her siblings, Dara Roberts of Watertown, Marvin Crego of Watertown, Arlin and Sharon Bender of Wisconsin, Alvis and Yvonne “Bonnie” Bender of Castorland, Addison and Katrina Bender of Wisconsin; a sister-in-law, Sandra Bender of Lowville; a brother-in-law and his wife, Bob and Valerie Keefer of Croghan; several nieces, nephews and cousins; her Lehman family and the Yoder family. She is predeceased by her parents, Austin Bender and Arletha Zehr Bender Yoder, her step-father, Ervin Yoder; two sisters, Kristin Chander, Angela Penny Keefer, and a brother Alfred Bender.
She was born Tammy Lee Crego on June 4, 1958 is Oswego, NY, a daughter of the late Victor and Constance Palmer Crego. The family lived in various locations growing up. She and her sister Angela Penny were later adopted by Austin and Arletha Bender. Tammy attended school locally and got her LPN certification. She grew up helping her parents at Bender’s Adult Home and continued caring for the elderly throughout her working years, at Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility and for many years at U.S. Care in Lowville. Tammy enjoyed working in her flower beds, reading, puzzles and baking. She attended Croghan Mennonite Church.
In keeping with Tammy’s wishes, a graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 24, 2024 at Croghan Mennonite Cemetery with a fellowship meal to follow, all are welcome. There will be no calling hours or funeral service. Contributions may be made on memory of Tammy to Friends of Lewis County Hospice , in c/o the future Lewis County Hospice Residence, P.O. Box 266, Lowville, NY 13367.
