Wayne A. Marcotte

July 1, 1932 ~ July 1, 2017 (age 85) 85 Years Old

LOWVILLE – Wayne Anthony Marcotte, formerly of Park Avenue, Lowville, died Saturday, July 1, 2017 at The Carlyle House Assisted Living Community under the care of his children and Hospice of Dayton, Ohio. He was 85.

Born July 1, 1932 in Willsboro, New York, the son of the late John A. Marcotte and Lucia Martin Marcotte, he graduated from Willsboro Central School in 1950 and Plattsburgh State Teachers College with a degree in education in 1955. Wayne married Patricia Ann Lyng on June 25, 1955 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, and resided in the Village of Lowville for many years.  After retirement, he and Patricia wintered in Port Charlotte, Florida, and, in 2010, moved to Ohio to be near their eldest daughter, Carol.

Wayne began his educational career teaching at Copenhagen Central School (1955-1963). From 1963 to 1968 he taught Jr. High science at Lowville Academy Central School, and in 1968 he became the Elementary Principal at Beaver River Central School. He remained there until his retirement in 1990 also serving as Chairperson for the Committee for Special Education.

Wayne was a member of Lowville Elks Lodge #1605.  He attended weekly mass and served as a lector and Eucharistic Minister for St. Peter’s Catholic Church. His hobbies included reading, golf, gardening, travel, socializing, and maintaining his camp – appropriately named “Wayne’s World” – in Watson, New York. His favorite pastime, however, was spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, extended family and friends.

Wayne loved his career in education, his students, teachers and the community. He had a special gift for engaging people, whether someone he knew or someone he just met;  a truly kind, compassionate and generous soul.

Survivors include his three children, Carol Pearson and her husband Chris of Springboro, OH, Lori Finney and her husband Tom of Collierville, TN, and David Marcotte of Pittsford, NY; five grandchildren, Trevor and Rachel Finney, and Michael, Stephen, and John Marcotte; and sisters-in-law Ann and Linda Marcotte, both of Willsboro, NY.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Patricia Lyng Marcotte; his brothers, Ralph M. and Samuel J. Marcotte, daughter, JoAnn, and granddaughter Maria Marcotte.

A memorial mass honoring Wayne Anthony Marcotte will take place at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lowville, New York on July 21, 2017 at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Lowville Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to either of the following organizations:  The Carlyle House Employee Fund at 3490 Far Hills Avenue, Dayton, OH 45429 or Hospice of Dayton at 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, OH 45420 (www.hospiceofdayton.org ). We, his children, are deeply grateful for the loving and caring relationship staff members of both organizations had with our father and our family throughout his journey.  Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.  Condolences may be made online at www.isenekerfuneralhome.com .
