Sterling R. "Bruno" Kidder

COPENHAGEN- Sterling R. "Bruno" Kidder, 85, of NYS Route 12, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown.

 The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., 5702 Waters Road, Lowville with Rev. George Gray, Pastor of River of Life Fellowship, Copenhagen, officiating. Spring burial with Military Honors will be in Riverside Cemetery, Copenhagen. Calling hours are from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 9, 2018 at the funeral home.  Contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.    

 He is survived by his 3 children; Ronald Kidder of Glendale, AZ, Randy Kidder and his companion, Jeanette Hadlock of Maine, Peggy and Larry Lago of Copenhagen; his siblings and their spouses, Elsie and Kenneth Keefer of Castorland, George and Sue Kidder of Florida, Carolyn and Bill LaClair of Limerick; 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary Rose Kidder who died on May 6, 2014; and a daughter-in-law, Sherry Kidder; a sister and 2 brothers, Marie Farber, Ralph and Harold Kidder.

 Sterling was born on November 25, 1932 in the Town of Champion, a son of the late Raymond Sterling and Ruth Dietrich Kidder. He graduated from Copenhagen Central School in 1951. He enlisted into the U.S. Army, serving from 1954 to 1956, serving 17 months in Okinawa. He married Mary Rose Higgins on December 8, 1956 at the Methodist Church in Copenhagen with Rev. Carl Jacobs Sr. officiating. He worked on a couple of local farms prior to entering the army, also worked at the cheese plant in Copenhagen, Weeks Lumber in Watertown, and worked as a foreman at Watertown Builders Supply. He also worked a short time at Black Clawson in Watertown before going to work for Champion International from 1981 to 1993 upon retirement. After his retirement, he drove truck for Murcrest Farms during the summer.

 Mr. Kidder was a member of Brownville American Legion Post #0588 and an honorary member of NNY Hound Club. He was also involved in the 4-H club and Boy Scouts. Sterling liked hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and 4- wheeling.  He was a fan of the New York Yankees baseball team and the Buffalo Bills football team. He enjoyed cutting wood for the winter and was an avid gardener.
