LOWVILLE- Richard J. Brown, 80, of Ridge Road, Lowville, passed away Friday morning, October 6, 2017 at Lewis County General Hospital.

The funeral will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Lowville United Methodist Church, Lowville with Rev. David Herrmann, Pastor, and Rev. Bruce W. Chapman, officiating.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lowville United Methodist Church, 7618 N. State Street, Lowville, NY 13367, or Martinsburg United Methodist Church, Route 26, Martinsburg, NY 13404, or Lowville American Legion Post #162, 5383 Dayan Street, Lowville, NY 13367.  

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sally; five children and their spouses, Debra Harris of Hurley, NY; Brenda and René Arnaud of Chelmsford, MA, Wendy and Glen Maine of Whitesboro, NY, Robert and Erin Brown of Lowville, Robin and Greg Maurer of Turin; a brother, Lawrence “Joe” Brown and his companion, Sharon Burdick, of Lyons Falls; a sister and brother-in-law, Sally and Mark Everson, a sister-in-law, Nancy Brown of Lowville; a brother-in-law, Paul Gyore of Lowville; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jane and Bruce Turck of Boonville; a sister-in-law, Jane Ingersoll of Hope Mills, NC.  14 grandchildren, and a great-grand daughter ; nieces, nephews and cousins.  He is predeceased by a grandson, Jordan Eric Brown who died on March 7, 2013, two brothers, Dudley Brown and Philip A. Brown, Sr., a sister, Patricia Gyore, and a brother-in-law, Gary Ingersoll.

Richard was born on October 3, 1937 in Lowville, NY, a son of the late Edward F. and Mary R. Burkhard Brown and graduated from Lowville Academy in 1955.  He served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1956 – 1964, and worked for Burkhard Plumbing and Heating in Croghan from 1954 - 1970.  He then worked for Lowville Oil (Plumbing and Heating Division) until 1979, before working for Climax Manufacturing until his retirement in February, 2000.

Richard was a member of Lowville United Methodist Church and the church’s booster club; a member of Sons of the American Legion, was a member of Friends’ of the Lowville Library; he was active with the seniors golf league at Cedar’s Golf Course,  and enjoyed watching NASCAR and spending time with his grandchildren.
