Lena (Lyndaker) Yancey

LYONS FALLS – Lena Yancey, 94 , formerly of Lyons Falls, died peacefully at East Road Adult Home Tuesday evening, June 11, 2019, under the care of the staff, her family and Lewis County Hospice.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at Lowville Mennonite Church with Pastor Keith Zehr, officiating   Burial will follow in Croghan Mennonite Cemetery.  Calling hours are from 2-4 & 6-8 on Monday, June 17, 2019 at the church.  Contributions may be made to Lowville Mennonite Church, 7705 Ridge Road, Lowville, NY 13367 or Friends of Lewis County Hospice. She is survived by eight children and their spouses, Jerry M. and Nancy Wherley Yancey of LaGrande, OR; Dean R. and Wanda Macedo Yancey of Lowville; Dr. Samuel P. Yancey of Croghan; Violet and Michael J. Colwell of Glenfield; Merle G. and Donna Bills Yancey of Lowville; Orson P. Yancey of New Market, NH; Annette Halko and her companion Paul Brown of Naumburg; Paula and Nathan Zehr of Webster, NY; seven siblings, Kenneth (Deb) Lyndaker of Watson; Gladys Schweitzer of Big Bear, CA; Alta Noftsier of Lowville; Catherine (Rexford) Dannan of Salisbury Center; Dorothy (Elmer) Zehr of Lowville; Helen (Loren) Unruh of Kansas; and Paul Lyndaker and his companion Joan of Castorland; sister-in-laws, Phyllis Lyndaker of Lowville and Fern Lyndaker of Turin; 18 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She is predeceased by her husband, Gerald; a daughter, Juanita Rose Yancey, who died in 1962 at the age of 7; four brothers; Christian Lyndaker, David Lyndaker, Norman Lyndaker and Howard and Lillian Lyndaker; two brothers-in-law, Jerry Schweitzer, and Judson Noftsier;  a sister-in-law, Gail Lyndaker; the Yancey in-laws, Samuel and Edna Zehr, Abner and Mary Swartzentruber, Edward and Bertha Yancey, Clayton and Iva Yousey, Edward and Bertha Roes, Maurice and Rosella Roes.

Mrs. Yancey was born on April 7, 1925 in Belfort, NY, a daughter of the late Paul and Catherine Widrick Lyndaker. She attended rural school in Belfort and Beaver Falls High School.  On December 12, 1946, she married Gerald Yancey at Croghan Mennonite Church with Rev. Lloyd Boshart officiating.   Together with her husband, the couple owned and operated the Yancey family dairy farm on the Yancey Road in West Lowville until 1975, at which time the couple moved to the Cut Off Road in Beaver Falls. Lena had a real estate business, Lena’s Realty and a bed and breakfast.

Mrs. Yancey was a member of Lowville Mennonite Church.  She enjoyed gardening, traveling and visiting Florida.
