PORT LEYDEN- Kenneth L. Mooney, 84, of Brownville Road, Port Leyden, passed away, surrounded by his family at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Utica, on Sunday morning, November 17, 2019.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 22, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., with son-in-law, Pastor Gene Bailey officiating. Calling hours will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be held at Penny Settlement Cemetery, Port Leyden. A gathering at the Port Leyden Fire Hall will immediately follow the burial. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to J.S. Koster Ambulance, P.O. Box 67, Port Leyden, N.Y. 13433.
Kenneth is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Elizabeth; nine children, Cynthia (Gene) Bailey of Glenfield; Debra (Gary) Campany of Port Leyden; Christine (Mike) McCullum of Cape Cod, M.A.; Patricia (Herbert) Domago of West Turin; JoEllen (Ralph) Hopler of Boonville; Kenneth (Lilith) Mooney of Lyons Falls; Jamie (Amy) Mooney of North Creek; Steven Houghton of Georgia; Melissa Houghton (Dave Jones) of Lyons Falls; five brothers, Richard (Mona) Mooney of Port Leyden; Ted (Darlene) Mooney of Port Leyden; Jerry Mooney of Port Leyden; Joe (Paula) Mooney of Greig; Keith (Nancy) Mooney of Port Leyden; his mother-in-law, Laurine Baxter of Lyons Falls; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Patti and Dennis Cole of V.T.; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Henry (Laurie) Baxter of Lyons Falls; Paul and Melisa Baxter of Port Leyden; 23 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Marilyn “Pat” Mooney; a son-in-law, Tony Pignone; a brother, Vernon Mooney; two sisters, Susie Houghton and Mary Lou Wearne; a brother-in-law, Phillip Baxter; a sister-in-law, Connie Mooney.
Kenneth was born on December 29, 1934 in Jamesville, New York, a son of the late Jessie and Mildred Rocker Mooney. He attended country school in the Town of Lyonsdale. After his schooling, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1951-1953. On December 24, 1954 he married Marilyn “Pat” Yager. She passed away on September 20, 1991. He later married Elizabeth Baxter on July 8, 1995. Ken worked construction and did logging with his brother for many years before going to work for the Town of Lyonsdale Highway Department, where he worked for 20 years. He retired in 2005 as Highway Superintendent.
He was a past member of the Lyons Falls Fire Department. Ken enjoyed hunting, four wheeling, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
