LOWVILLE – Joyce M. Powis, 62, of State Route 177, Lowville, passed away Friday afternoon, June 30, 2017, at her home.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 3, 2017 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville, with Rev. Bruce W. Chapman, officiating.  Burial will follow in West Lowville Cemetery.  All are welcome to attend a gathering at the Martinsburg Fire Department immediately following the burial.  Calling hours are from 5 – 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at the funeral home.  Contributions in her memory may be made to the Martinsburg Fire Department, P.O. Box 143, Martinsburg, NY  13404; or to the Lewis County Humane Society, P.O. Box 682, Lowville, NY  13367.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 43 years, Robert Sr., her children, Robert Powis Jr. and his wife, Lupe of Lowville; Lynette Franks and her fiancé, Scott Lampson of Martinsburg; six grandchildren, Brian, Leti, Beto, Makayla, Blake and Dalton; five siblings and their spouses, Michael D. and Wendy Mahoney of Lowville; Patricia L. and Patrick O’Brien of Lowville; Dennis J. and Jackie Mahoney of Castorland; Neil P. and Tammy Mahoney of Glenfield; William T. and Liana Mahoney of Lowville; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She is predeceased by her parents, William and Julia Mahoney; and a sister, Barbara Ann Mahoney.

Joyce was born on September 30, 1954 in Lowville, NY, a daughter of the late William D. and Julia E. Horvath Mahoney. Joyce graduated from Lowville Academy in 1973.  On July 27, 1974, she married Robert S. Powis at Lowville United Methodist Church.  Joyce raised her family and worked at the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility in the activities department and for Thisse’s Meat Market in Lowville before working for the Town Hall Theatre for many years.  She has worked with her daughter and granddaughter for Kalil’s Grocery in Inlet for the past two summers.  Joyce worked as an election inspector in the Town of Harrisburg for more than twenty years.

Joyce was active with the 4 – H department at Lewis County Cooperative Extension.  She enjoyed crocheting, horses, and most of all, spending time with her family.
