John Clark Obituary

TURIN –John H. Clark Jr., 88, passed away Wednesday morning, May 23, 2018 at the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility.

There will be no funeral service or calling hours. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Turin Cemetery.  Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc, Lowville.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 65 years, Eileen; his 2 children and their spouses, Patricia and Kenneth Krokowski of Constableville, John R. and Kitty Clark of Turin; 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by a brother, Charles Clark and a sister, Eleanor Laing.

John was born September 23, 1929 in Scranton, PA, a son of the late John H. and Nellie Swasey Clark Sr. He lived in Pennsylvania for about 2 years and then his family moved to Glenfield in 1931. In 1939 they moved to Glendale Houseville intersection and worked on Gibbs farm (milk route), Salmon Bros farm, helping with haying and corn harvest. John worked on many farms in his younger years during the summers, such as the Duncan farm, driving truck, and working for Claude Bard, driving hay truck and other equipment, George Higby’s farm, and worked for Elwin Rowell.  He graduated from Cornell University Agriculture School in 1951 and took a job with Ferguson Distribution in Cortland, spending 2 years in the parts warehouse and 1 year on the road visiting dealers. He also worked for a Ferguson dealer in North Syracuse. He married Eileen Rowell on June 5, 1953 at Glenfield United Methodist Church with Rev.Weck officiating. From 1955 to 1958, John taught agriculture at Windsor, NY and then took a job at Washington County, teaching driving at Cambridge and Salem, NY for 7 years. In 1965, he bought an 80 acre dairy farm and sold it in 1976. Mr. Clark retired from U.S.D.A government office in Lowville.
