Helen E. LaLone

LOWVILLE/FAIRFAX, VA: Helen E. LaLone of Fairfax, VA was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, June 24, 2017, while a patient at the Reston Hospital Center, Reston, VA. Though Helen lived in Antwerp, NY and Easton, MD most of her life, she resided in Fairfax, VA with her son for the past few years. Helen was born on December 8, 1929, in Lowville, NY to Lester and Pearl (Wakefield) Weller. She attended school in Lowville, where she graduated high school early at the age of 16. She attended Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA for one semester before returning home to help her younger sisters after the death of their mother. She married Donald N. LaLone on June 3, 1950, and was happily married for 57 years until his death in January, 2008. Helen worked in many different types of jobs including Woolworths, Avon, in-home day care, and later as a teaching assistant in a Christian school. She was an active member of the Easton Church of the Nazarene where she played the piano, sang, and taught children's Sunday School classes. Helen loved the Lord, and her life was devoted to her husband and children. There are also many individuals in her extended family and friends who considered her their "mother". She always saw and expected the best in everyone and would see the positive side of every situation. She was totally healed of a serious illness at the age of 14 and had an unwavering trust in and love for God. Her prayer life was a top priority for her, and in her later years it was not unusual for her to spend hours alone in prayer. She could be heard praying and singing to the Lord throughout the day, and you could not have a conversation with her without her telling you about the love of God. Helen is survived by her sister, Julia Robinson (Elmira, NY), and six children, John LaLone and his wife Janet (Lenoir, NC), Vicki (LaLone) Dolinger and her husband Philip (Herndon, VA), Gary LaLone and his wife Betty (Canton, OH), David LaLone and his wife Susan (Duncannon, PA), Timothy LaLone (Fairfax, VA), and Jerry LaLone and his wife Donna (Preston, MD). Helen was predeceased by her husband Don, grandson Jonathan, daughter-in-law Jeaneen; seven brothers, Duane, Harold, Clifford, Spencer, Vernon, and Lester Jr., Perry, and three sisters, Shirley, Arletha, and Esther. A celebration of Helen's life will be held on Monday, July 3, 2017, at Floris United Methodist Church located at 13600 Frying Pan Rd, Herndon, VA 20171. A viewing will be held from 1:00 pm - 2:45 pm followed by a memorial service at 3:00 pm. There will also be a memorial service in Lowville, NY, where Helen will be buried on a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to World Vision International to assist children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice.
