CASTORLAND – Geraldine E. Zehr, 86, of Karcher Estates, formerly of Mechanic Street, Copenhagen, died Tuesday evening, December 19, 2017 at Upstate University Hospital at the Community Campus, Syracuse.

The funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 29, 2017 at Naumburg Mennonite Church with Titus Mast, Myron Roggie, and Bruce Roggie, Pastors, officiating.  Spring burial will be in the Croghan Mennonite Cemetery.  Calling hours are from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at the church.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to David and Josi Zehr, for their son Jonas’ recovery, 32777 Montana Dr., Carthage, NY 13619; or a charity of one’s choice.  Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.

She is survived by her 11 children and their spouses, Wayne and Donna Zehr of Copenhagen; Marvin and Linda Zehr of Carthage; Clifford, Jr. and Cynthia Zehr of Silver Lake, IN; Henry and Sherry Zehr of Warsaw, IN; John and Sheila Zehr of Beaver Falls; Annette and Peter Lehman of Copenhagen; Mervin and Maureen Zehr of Lowville; Glenn and Cheryl Zehr of Lowville; Eleanor and Kent Widrick of Beaver Falls; Merle and Kristy Zehr of York Springs, PA; Jerry and Mary Margaret Zehr of Oneida; a brother and a sister-in-law, Simon and Diane Gingerich, Sr. of Castorland; two sisters, Mary Ellen Roggie of Carthage, and Kathleen Gingerich of Lowville; 33 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She is predeceased by her husband, Clifford; a son, Keith Zehr, who died September 23, 1967; and by two granddaughters, Alyssa Zehr and Kailey Zehr.

Mrs. Zehr was born in Lowville, NY on April 11, 1931, a daughter of the late Simon Sr. and Adeline Mayer Gingerich.  She attended rural school in Harrisburg and Lowville Academy.  On October 19, 1949, she married Clifford J. Zehr at the Lowville Mennonite Church, with Rev. Lloyd Boshart, officiating.  Together with her husband, the couple took over her husband’s family farm on the Old Watertown Road in 1956.  Together they owned and operated the dairy farm until 1986.  Clifford died on November 18, 2013.

Mrs. Zehr was a member of Naumburg Mennonite Church and the church sewing circle.  She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, camping, traveling, and spending time with her family.
