Gary Terry Obituary

LOWVILLE- Gary D. Terry, 72, of Waters Road passed away on Wednesday morning, June 26, 2019 under the loving care of his family and Lewis County Hospice.

The funeral will be held on Saturday June 29, 2019 at Iseneker Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Ed Steckly, officiating. Calling hours are 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service, at the funeral home.  Burial with Military Honors will be in the Riverside Cemetery Annex, Beaver Falls.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to LCGH Fund for Hope, 7785 N. State Street, Lowville, NY 13367.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Brenda, a daughter and her husband, Christina and Kenneth Flint Jr. of Castorland; a son and his wife, Lee and Leslie Terry of Chittenango; and three grandchildren, Tori and Keagan Terry, and Haleigh Flint; his sister, Connie Jack of Fort Worth, Texas; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.  He is predeceased by his mother, Betty Jane Peck Shanks.

Gary was born on March 27, 1947 in Wilmington, NY, a son of Betty Jane Peck and graduated from Lake Placid High School in 1965. He then enlisted in the United States Navy where he served until 1969.  He served in the Vietnam War and received many decorations including the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (four bronze stars), and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.   On March 24, 1967, he married Brenda J. Wakefield at the Ausable Forks Methodist Church. He was a self-employed logger, auto mechanic, and then worked in the Asplundh Tree Company for 30 years. He retired in 2007.

He was a member of the Beaver River Memorial Post 1667, Croghan American Legion, and the local IBEW #1249. He was an avid hunter and car enthusiast. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
