LOWVILLE – Garry Wensel, 63, of Hemlock Drive, passed away Friday afternoon, February 15, 2019, at Lewis County General Hospital.
He is survived by his wife of more than 36 years, Linda; a son and daughter-in-law, Brandon and Heather Wensel of West Carthage; a granddaughter, Kaitlyn Abigail Wensel; a sister, Karin Wade of Massachusetts; and a nephew, Jeffrey Wade of Massachusetts. He is predeceased by his beloved daughter, Kari Ann Wensel, who died on July 29, 2009, and by a brother-in-law, Thomas Wade.
Garry was born on October 25, 1955 in Newburgh, NY, a son of the late Garhart and Hildegard Wensel. He graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1973 and worked for S.G. Kimballs Auto Parts for many years. On August 12, 1982, he married Linda DeFreese in Newburgh. Garry worked for K.C. Canary John Deere dealership in Beacon, NY from 1995 until 2001. Garry and his family moved to Virginia, where he worked for the Virginia State Department of Transportation as a heavy equipment operator from 2001 until 2005. Garry and his family moved Lowville in 2005.
He was a volunteer fireman for Winona Lake Fire Department in Newburgh for over 10 years. Garry enjoyed hot rods, die cast cars and woodworking. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter, Kaitlyn Abigail Wensel.
In keeping with Garry’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
