LOWVILLE/HERKIMER- AnnaMae M. Purdy, 96, formerly of Brookside Circle, Lowville and Middleville Road, Herkimer, passed away Friday morning, December 14, 2018 at Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility.
In keeping with AnnaMae’s wishes, her family has gathered privately at Iseneker Funeral Home. Inc., Lowville. Burial will be in the spring in Mohawk Cemetery in Herkimer, NY.
She is survived by two sisters and a brother, Elizabeth “Helen” Archer of Lowville; Mildred Hemak of Georgia; and Frederick Mathis of Boonville; a sister-in-law, Mary Mathis of Constableville; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 52 years, Kenneth, who passed away August 20, 2009; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Earl and Edna Mathis, Harry and Arlene Mathis, and Raymond Mathis; a sister three brothers-in-law, Clara and Joseph Vrubel, Robert Archer and Edward Hemak; and a sister-in-law, Mary Mathis.
AnnaMae was born on January 27, 1922 in West Turin, a daughter of the late John and Mae Bassett Mathis. She graduated from Turin High School and Utica State Hospital School of nursing, with affiliation with Monisonia General Hospital in the Bronx. On January 1, 1957 she married Kenneth Purdy at the Turin Methodist Church. On January 27, 1977 she retired from Marcy Psychiatric Center as lead Registered Nurse.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Herkimer and Little Falls. She was also former member of the senior citizens of the town of Herkimer, where she was very active.
