Biography
HARRISVILLE – John Ray “Whiskey” Wescott, 54, of Lower Maple Street, Harrisville, died early Saturday, September 29, 2012, at his home, under the care of his family and Lewis County Hospice.
John is survived by his wife of nearly 34 years, Kathy; two sons, Rusty Ray Wescott of Harrisville; Nicholas Jake Wescott and his companion, Cari Denesha of Harrisville; three brothers-in-law and their wives, Phillip and Susan Smith of Shortsville, N.Y.; Charles P. Smith of Malone, N.Y.; James and Lisa Smith of Harrisville; four sisters-in-law and their husbands, Virginia and Byron Kempney of Carthage; Linda and James Phillips of Oswego; Billie and James Manchester of Harrisville; Michelle and Kevin Virkler of Lowville; two grandchildren, Colee and Jadyn; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his mother, Evelyn Wescott, his maternal grandparents, Ray and Hazel Clark Wescott, and his mother and father-in-law, George and Marion Smith.
John was born on August 31, 1958 in Carthage and attended Harrisville Central School. On October 7, 1978, he married Kathy R. Smith at Harrisville United Methodist Church, with Rev. Janet Gibbs officiating. John worked at Viking-Cives, Inc., Harrisville; Crown Zellerbach, Cathage; Champion International, Deferiet; Bill Lewis, Watertown; Laframboise of Canada; Burns Brothers, Syracuse; Galaxy, Oswego; and B & S Construction Company of Gouverneur, until becoming disabled in 2007. John was a member of the Millwrights Local #1163.
John was a member of the Happy Acres Hunting Club since the late 1970's and enjoyed hunting there with friends. He also enjoyed boating, gardening and canning. John was a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Boston Red Sox.
