LOWVILLE- Donald W. “Bill” Raymond, 63, of Trinity Ave., died Sunday morning, September 9, 2012 at his home, while under the care of his family and Lewis County Hospice.
A funeral Mass will be said at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 14, 2012 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville, with Rev. Christopher Carrara, Pastor, officiating. Military Honors will follow the funeral Mass. Following the Military Honors, there will be a luncheon at the Lowville Fire Hall. Calling hours are from 4 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville. Contributions may be made to Lewis County General Hospital Fund for Hope, 7785 N. Bill is survived by his wife of nearly 39 years, Mary Jane; a daughter Jessica Lyn of Lowville; his step-mother, Delores Raymond of Watertown; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and William Carlin, Karen and Jon Hall, Janet and Stewart Snowdon, all of Watertown; his father-in-law, Robert M. Skinner of Glenfield; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was born on December 20, 1948 in Lowville, a son of the late Donald L. Raymond and June Doris Snyder Raymond. He graduated from Lowville Academy in 1967 and attended the University of New Paltz on a wrestling scholarship. He joined the Army National Guard and was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a medic. He trained at Kirk Army Hospital in Aberdeen, Maryland and at Fort Sam Houston for Radiographic Procedures. After his discharge from the Army, Bill was in the Reserves and attended the University of Rochester at Strong Memorial Hospital, where he received his Radiology Degree. Bill received the highest grade in the nation on his Radiology National Boards. Because of this, he was invited to the White House in February, 1973, to meet with then First Lady Pat Nixon. Mrs. Nixon was a former Radiologic Technologist and she presented Bill with a special plaque commemorating the 50th anniversary of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. On September 15, 1973, he married Mary Jane Skinner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. Salmon, officiating. Bill worked as a Radiologic Technologist at Lewis County General Hospital from 1972 - 2003, upon retirement. After retirement, he worked part-time for Northern Radiology in Watertown. While at Northern Radiology, Bill was requested to train veterinary technicians on the CAT Scan at a small veterinary clinic in Canandaigua, NY.
Bill was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville, where he served as an altar boy when he was young. He was a life member of the Lowville American Legion Post #162 and a past member of B.P.O.E. #1605, Lowville Lodge. Bill was a member of the Lowville Fire Department, and was a Boy Scout.
