Biography
LOWVILLE- Jean Ruth Jenkins, 79, of River Road, Lowville, wife of Ray B. Jenkins, passed away on Sunday morning, July 29, 2012 at the Lewis County General Hospital.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at the Lowville United Methodist Church, with Rev. Beth O’Neil, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Beaches Bridge Cemetery. Calling hours are from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. prior the funeral service, at the church. Arrangements are with the Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Ray; five children and their spouses, Gail Bevier of Atlanta, GA; Paul and Kristine of Frankfurt, NY; Ray C. and LuAnn of Coldbrook, NY; Adam and Lynette of Newport, NY; Lyle and Becky of Salisbury Center, NY; 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by a brother, Earl Paul Jacobs.
Jean was born on February 5, 1933 in Camden, NY, a daughter of the late Paul and Irene Streeter Jacobs. She graduated from high school in Phoenix, NY. On October 20, 1952, she married Ray B. Jenkins in Phoenix. Jean took over her family business, The Stillwater Shop, after her father’s death. Together with her husband, the couple owned and operated the business until 1996, when they retired. The Jenkins have lived on the River Road since the 1990s.
Jean was a member Lowville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed going to church, painting, playing cards, and clipping articles from the newspaper. Jean enjoyed spending time at their camp at Butterfield Lake.
