Biography
DEXTER- Gertrude L. “Trudy” Switzer, 73, of Breezy Knoll Trailer Park died on Friday morning, June 29, 2012 at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at The River Community Church, Clayton. A calling hour will be from 10-11 a.m., prior to the funeral, at the church. Burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made on Trudy’s memory to: American Cancer Society, in c/o T.I. Cancer Kicker’s Relay for Life Team, P.O. Box 357. Watertown, NY 13601. Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, John. Two sons and a daughter-in-law, Marc W. and Sally Switzer of Cape Vincent, Richard A. Switzer of Dexter; several step-brothers and step-sisters, and cousins. She is predeceased by a brother, C.R. McIntosh.
Trudy was born on January 15, 1939 in Watertown, NY, a daughter of the late Robert George and Grace Barrett Hollenbeck McIntosh. Her mother died when she was four years old and she was raised by her grandparents, Clarence and Gertrude Hollenbeck. She attended Clayton High School and on March 28, 1958, she married John E. Switzer in Clayton, NY. Together with her husband, the couple owned and operated dairy farms, one in Clayton and two in Cape Vincent. In 1991 the couple sold the farm on Route 12 E, Cape Vincent, and later moved to Dexter. Trudy had worked at the Half-Way Chalet, Cape Vincent, as a cleaner and also as a home care aide, for many years.
She was a past member of the Rebecca Lodge in Clayton, and past members of the Black River Valley Fiddlers. Together with her husband, the couple enjoyed dancing and snowmobiling, clambakes and family gatherings, and visiting with her friends at the Fiddler’s dances.
