Biography
MARTINSBURG - Elizabeth A. "Betty" Peters, 92, formerly of Whitaker Road, Martinsburg, died Saturday morning, January 30, 2010 at the Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility, where she had resided since July 27, 2007.
A prayer service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., 5702 Waters Road, Lowville, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Glenfield, with Rev. Christopher Carrara, Pastor, officiating. Spring burial will be in the Old Glendale Cemetery. A calling hour will be from 9 – 10 a.m., prior to the prayer service, at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
She is survived by four children: a son and daughter-in-law, Francis M. and Linda Peters of Croghan; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Elsie M. and Jerry F. Root of Lyons Falls, Nancy Cavanaugh and Donald Simpson of Boonville, Wendy Glazier of Lowville; ten grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by a sister, Helen Edick; three brothers, Gerald Beecher, Vincent Beecher, and Herbert Beecher; a granddaughter, Tracy Cavanaugh Spann, who died on December 16, 1994 and a son-in-law, David C. Cavanaugh, who died on September 8, 1985.
Mrs. Peters was born on December 14, 1917 in the Town of New Bremen, a daughter of the late Albert and Christina Buckingham Beecher. She attended country school in Soft Maple. On August 23, 1937, she married Milton F. Peters at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Glenfield. Mr. Peters died September 1, 2006.
Mrs. Peters was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Glenfield. She was a former member of the West Martinsburg Home Bureau, and a past member of the Martinsburg Ladies Bowling Team. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and snowmobiling. Mrs. Peters also enjoyed wall papering, baby sitting, crossword puzzles, knitting and crocheting.
