LOWVILLE- Charlotte M. Clifton, 81, formerly of Brookside Circle, died Tuesday afternoon at Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility
The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., 5702 Waters Road, Lowville with Rev. Bruce Lyndaker, pastor of Emmaus Bible Fellowship Church, Lowville, officiating. Spring burial will be in First Mennonite Church Cemetery. Calling hours are from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. on Friday, January 29, 2010 at the funeral home. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Carl; four daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Nelson Thomas of Spencerport, NY; Brenda and James Hawkins of Goshen, IN; Marcia and Gary Robbins of Watertown; Maureen and Wendell Zehr of Watertown; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren; a brother, Kermit Lehman of Sarasota, FL; two sisters and a brothers–in-law, Pauline Lyndaker of Lowville, and Roselba and Donald Combs of Lowville; a step-brother and his wife, Aubrey “Dick” and Nancy Hills of Star Lake; a step-sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Robert Kiernan of Copenhagen; three sisters-in-law, Betty Lehman, Imelda Hills, and Irene Lehman, all of Lowville; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her step-mother, Helen Dobson Hills Lehman; three brothers, Beryl Lehman, Meredith Lehman, who died as an infant, and Donald Lehman; a sister, Betty Lehman and a step-brother, Ronald Hills, a sister-in-law, Ann Lehman and a brother-in-law, Richard Lyndaker.
Mrs. Clifton was born on May 7, 1928 in the Town of Harrisburg, NY, a daughter of the late Ezra and Clara Roggie Lehman. She attended country school in Harrisburg, NY and Lowville Academy. On September 4, 1945, she married Carl Clifton, at her parent’s home in the Town of Harrisburg. Mrs. Clifton did housekeeping work for many years.
Charlotte & her husband, Carl, were instrumental in starting Watertown Mennonite Church and the Agape Shoppe in Watertown, and enjoyed volunteering there. She enjoyed knitting, quilting, and making comforters for the needy. She also enjoyed Christian music. Charlotte taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School for many years at First Mennonite Church, New Bremen, and Watertown Mennonite Church. She enjoyed traveling with her husband.
