Wilhelmina A. Plato

LOWVILLE- Wilhelmina A. Plato, 83, of Leesburg, Florida, formerly of Lowville, died at Waterman Hospital in Tavares, Florida on Tuesday, September 26, 2016.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Greig United Methodist Church, with Pastor Keith Hardy officiating.  Burial will follow at Sands Cemetery.  There will be no calling hours.  Contributions may be made to Bethel Church of the Nazarene, 7476 State Route 12, Lowville, NY 13367.

She is survived by her husband, George; five children, Bernard B. (Sue) Tracy of North Syracuse, NY; Malinda Sue Barkschat of Bossier, Louisiana; David Gene Tracy of Rome, NY; Mark (Cindy) Tracy of Munnsville, NY; George Jr. (Hanna) Plato of Florida; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  She is predeceased by two brothers, Jack and George Mead, and three sisters, Sarah Dilks, Helen Mead Sykes, and Frances Mead Lester. 

Wilhelmina was born on March 5, 1933, at her home in Rome, NY, a daughter of the late William H. and Helen P. Grogan Mead.  She was the last of six children, and came to be known by her family as “Aunt Bill.”  She graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1951, and went on to work for singer sewing center.  In 1952, she married Charles Tracy in San Marcus, Texas.  After 18 years, the marriage ended in divorce.  She worked as an Avon Representative in Rome for 7 years.  On September 30, 1972, she married George H. Plato at New London Methodist Church, with Reverend Richard Pero officiating.  In 1983, She started driving school bus for South Lewis Central School for 8 years. She then moved on to Ames Department Store where she remained until 1994 when she retired with her husband.  Spending the winters in Florida and summers in the Lowville area

She enjoyed golfing, bowling, and crafting.
