Valerie M. Kuntz

LOWVILLE- Valerie M. Kuntz, 52, of River Street, Lowville, died at her home on Monday, September 26, 2016, under the loving care of her twin sister and Lewis County Hospice.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Fairview Cemetery, Harrisburg.  There will be no calling hours.  A gathering will immediately follow the service at the Lowville American Legion.  All are welcome.  Contributions may be made to the Lowville American Legion Auxiliary #162, 5383 Dayan Street, Lowville, NY 13367, or Friends of Lewis County Hospice, P.O. Box 266, Lowville, NY 13367.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Darren and Emily Kuntz of Glenfield; a daughter and son-in-law, Brittany and Joseph Rivers of Glenfield; a step-son, Richard Kuntz and fiancé Charlie Becker of Orlando, Florida; a twin sister and brother-in-law, Vanessa and David Delles of Glenfield; a sister, Sharon Wetmore of Lyons Falls; three grandchildren, Ayden, Kevin, and Aerial; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  She is predeceased by her husband George R. Kuntz, who died on January 9, 2004, and a brother-in-law, Jerold Wetmore.

Valerie was born on July 28, 1964 in Lowville, NY, a daughter of the late Clifford Gydesen and Betty E. Besaw Gydesen Vary.  She was raised by her mother and stepfather, Richard G. Vary.  She graduated from Lowville Academy and after high school began working as a bartender.  On December 19, 1986, she married George R. Kuntz at Justice Julius Guignard’s residence.  They raised their family and together, owned and operated Kuntz Excavating and Trucking for many years. 

Valerie was a devoted member of the Lowville American Legion Auxiliary.  She also worked for the American Legion as the head bartender for 7 years.  She greatly enjoyed working and visiting with people, and most of all spending time with her family.
