CARTHAGE – Shirley B. Sullivan, 77, of Roberts Road, passed away Thursday evening, June 22, 2017 at her home, under the loving care of her family and Lewis County Hospice.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 26, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at First Mennonite Church, New Bremen, with Ed Steckly, Pastor, officiating.  Burial will be held at the conveniee of the family.  Calling hours are Sunday, June 25, 2017 from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Friends of Lewis County Hospice, P.O. Box 266, Lowville, NY 13367, or American Cancer Society, Memorial Processing Center, 6725 Lyons Street, P.O. Box 7, East Syracuse, NY 13057.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Charles; five sons, Michael and Joyce Sullivan; Jeffrey Sullivan; Kevin and Amy Sullivan; Gary and Kristy Sullivan; Scott and Sandra Sullivan, all of Carthage; her brothers, Larry and Helen Brouty of Long Pond; Thomas and Susan Brouty of Sackets Harbor and Florida; Donald and Elaine Brouty of Castorland; Gerry and Janet Brouty of Croghan; Patrick Brouty of Romania; a sister, Betty DuFlo of Soft Maple; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one on the way; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She is predeceased by a brother, Richard Brouty; and a brother-in-law, Thomas DuFlo.

Shirley was born on November 8, 1939 in Lowville, a daughter of the late Maynard J. and Ona C. Fleming Brouty.  She graduated from Beaver River Central School in 1957.  Shirley worked in the office at the Latex Fiber Mill prior to her marriage.  On June 6, 1959, she married Charles F. Sullivan at Beaver Falls Evangelical United Brethren Church with Rev. Stuart McCleary, officiating.  Mrs. Sullivan continued to work at Latex Fiber for a year after the couple was married.  Together with her husband, they purchased Charlie’s parent’s dairy farm on the Roberts Road in Carthage.  The couple owned and operated the dairy farm until it was taken over by their son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Joyce Sullivan.  Shirley worked as an Election Inspector in the Town of Denmark for many years, where she had also served as Tax Collector.  Shirley served on Copenhagen Central School Board of Education for many years.

Shirley enjoyed gardening, crocheting, reading, tractor pulling, traveling with friends, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
