Shirley E. Dening McGrath

October 19, 1925 ~ February 14, 2016 (age 90) 90 Years Old


LOWVILLE – Shirley E. Dening McGrath, 90, formerly of Dayan Street and Shady Ave., died Sunday afternoon, February 14, 2016 at Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility, surrounded by her family. 

A Funeral Mass will be said on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville, with Rev. Christopher Carrara, Pastor, officiating.  There will be no calling hours.  Spring burial will be in Lowville Rural Cemetery.  A luncheon will immediately follow the mass in the church fellowship hall.  Arrangements are with the Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.    Contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 5457 Shady Ave., Lowville, NY  13367.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert E. Jr. and Bonnie Dening, Dennis D. and Denyse Dening, all of Lowville, two daughters and sons-in-law, Colleen and John Rzepka of West Monroe, Sue and William Kiernan of Lowville; twelve grandchildren, Kimberly (Jamie), Robert (Laura), Jessica (David), Darrell (Alison), Dale (Jamie), Dennis (Abby), Gregory (Joanna), Nichole (Robert), Matthew, Kristina (Philip), Ryan (Adrien), Dulcie (Jay), seventeen great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She is predeceased by a brother, Raymond Boshart and four sisters, Margaret Henry, Vivian Kelley, Anna Mae Strife, and Jane Wengert.Mrs. McGrath was born on October 19, 1925 in the town of Harrisburg, NY, a daughter of the late Henry E. and Edith Hanno Boshart.  She graduated from Lowville Academy in 1943.  On January 21, 1946, she married Robert E. Dening, Sr. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville, with Msgr. Hogan, officiating.  She worked for Lewis County Co-Operative Extension from 1963 – May 26, 1983, upon retirement.  Mr. Dening died on October 28, 1987.  On August 4, 1990, she married John P. McGrath at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Rev. Ted Monica, officiating.  Mr. McGrath died on June 24, 2005.

Mrs. McGrath was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, and was a member of the church’s Altar and Rosary Society.  She was a Life Member of Lewis County Memorial Post #6912 Auxiliary and enjoyed reading, the computer, and spending time with her family.

Shirley’s family would like to thank the staff of the first floor Lewis County Extended Care Facility for their compassion and the excellent care Shirley received.
