Ruby W. (Widrick) Norton

March 22, 1941 ~ October 26, 2016 (age 75) 75 Years Old


LOWVILLE – Ruby W. Norton, 75, of Stowe Street, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, October 26, 2016, under the loving care of her family and Lewis County Hospice. 

Calling hours will be held from 2 - 5 PM on Monday, October 31, 2016 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.  A prayer service will be held at 5:00 PM, with Rev. Bruce W. Chapman officiating.  A luncheon will be held at Lowville Fire Department immediately following the prayer service.  Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Martinsburg Cemetery.  Contributions in her memory may be made to Lowville Free Library, 5387 Dayan Street, Lowville, NY 13367; or to the Lewis County Humane Society, P.O. Box 682, Lowville, NY 13367.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Ronald; two children and their spouses, Brad and Joi Norton of Glenfield; Kelley and Terry Dosztan of Lowville; a sister and her husband, Phyllis and Paul Jantzi of Lowville; four grandchildren, Heather Dosztan, Michael Dosztan, Stacie Norton, Tyler Norton; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She is predeceased by three sisters, Helen Lyndaker, Adeline Kirch Zehr, and Florence Widrick, who died at age 9; and by a brother, Edwin Widrick.

Ruby was born on March 22, 1941 in Lowville, a daughter of the late John E. and Ellen Lehman Widrick.  She attended country school on the Number Three Road, and graduated from Lowville Academy in 1959.  Ruby attended Goshen College in Goshen, Indiana for the secretarial program.  After her education, Ruby began working for Attorney Farrington Young, and Judge Fred Young, Judge of the Court of Claims.   On August 4, 1962, she married Ronald W. Norton at the Lowville Baptist Church, with Rev. Allen officiating.  Mrs. Norton continued working for Attorney Farrington Young for several years, before working for local attorneys in Lowville for many years.  Ruby retired from Cummings, McGuire, Dunckel and Campany law firm in 2001.

Ruby was a member of the Lowville Fire Department Auxiliary, and a member of Lowville Home Demonstration Club for many years.  She also volunteered with the Lewis County Office of the Aging.  Together with her husband, Ruby enjoyed snowmobiling, riding atvs, and going to camp at Highmarket.  She enjoyed traveling throughout the country, and attending many NASCAR races.
