LOWVILLE – Rollian F. Martin, 91, of 8161Steam Mill Road, Brantingham, died Tuesday evening, May 24, 2016, at Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility. 

A Funeral Mass will be said at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Rev. Christopher Carrara, Pastor, officiating.  Burial with Military Honors will be in Lowville Rural Cemetery.  Calling hours will be from 4 - 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.  Donations in his memory may be made to the Elks National Foundation, 5600 Shady Ave., Lowville, NY 13367.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James D. and Christine Martin of Liverpool; a daughter, Amy M. Kolenda of Lowville; eight grandchildren, Andrew and Kristy Makuch; Christopher and Kerry Makuch; Matthew Makuch and fiancé, Danielle Zehr; Michael and Sara Kolenda; Nicholas Kolenda; Shawn and Teresa Martin; Chantel and Roberto Moran; Malisa and Dana Westfall; thirteen great-grandchildren, Monica and Eric Makuch; Maxamillion and Deken Makuch; Tyler Fruin, Teagan and Tesslynn Makuch; Chace and Colden Martin; Lilah and Quinn Moran; Carson Martin; Brianna Hoffman; and Isabelle Kolenda; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Harold and Dianne Hoffman of Lowville; Lowell and Dolores Hoffman of Lowville; Bethany Hoffman of Massena; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He is predeceased by his wife, Virginia of 63 years; brothers and sisters, Marion (Peggy) Moses, Richard Martin, Mildred Weiner, and Arthur Martin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Russell and Jane Hoffman; and Leonard Hoffman.

Mr. Martin was born on May 30, 1924 in Newburgh, NY, a son of the late Roland and Marion Hall Martin.  He attended rural school at Brewery Hill, and graduated from Beaver Falls High School in 1941.  Mr. Martin was drafted into the Army of the United States on March 3, 1943, during World War II.  He joined the 11th Airborne Division, Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 188th Parachute Infantry.  During his service he was stationed at Camp McColl, NC; Camp Polk, LA; Ora Bay, New Guinea; Loyettes, and Luzon, Philippines Island; Tokyo, Japan and Sendai, Japan.  First Sergeant Martin was honorably discharged on January 11, 1946.   He graduated from Utica School of Commerce in 1946.   On April 10, 1947, he married Virginia Hoffman at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lowville, NY, with Monsignor John Hogan officiating.  In May 1947, he began working at Hoffman and Dudo, Inc. In November 1967, he was elected Vice President of the family business, and was elected Executive Vice President and Treasurer in January 1969.  In April 1972, he was elected President and Treasurer, and retired from the business on August 31, 1987. 

Mr. Martin was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville and St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Glenfield.  He was a 3rd Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus.  Mr. Martin was a life member of B.P.O.E. #1605, Lowville Elks Lodge, where he was Exalted Ruler from 1961-1962.  He served as NYS Vice President, and District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler for the North Central District, and was a New York State Trustee.  Mr. Martin was a member of American Legion Post #162, and Lewis County Memorial Post #6912, Veterans of Foreign Wars.  He was a member of the New York State Cheese Manufacturer’s Association, where he served as Treasurer in 1965, and President in 1974.  Mr. Martin served as a member and chairman of the Village of Lowville Planning Board.  

Mr. and Mrs. Martin were winter residents of Swan Lake Village in Bradenton, Florida for over twenty years.
