LOWVILLE – Robert R. Archer, 83, of Snell Road, passed away late Saturday evening, October 31, 2015 at the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility.

A funeral mass will be said at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 6, 2015 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville, with Rev. Christopher Carrara, Pastor, officiating.  Burial with Military Honors will be in West Lowville Rural Cemetery.  Calling hours will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2015 from 4 – 8 p.m. at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.  Contributions may be made in his memory to the Lewis County Hospital Foundation, Fund For Hope, 7785 N. State St., Lowville, NY 13367.    

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth; eight children and their spouses, LouAnn and David Wood of Lowville; Donna and Jeffrey Baxter of Van Etten, NY; Deborah and Gary Walseman of Castorland; Robert Ray Archer II and his wife, Kimberly, of Canton, NY; Mary and Skip Blackwell of Lowville; Franklin and Jacqueline Archer of Lowville; Suzanne Easter of Buffalo; Jacqueline and James Schlieder of Copenhagen; a sister, Jane Rieves of Carthage; 22 grandchildren, Amber, Benjamin, Robert, Kelly, Jon, Charles, Amy, Penny, Mark, Holly, Nathan, Casey, Sara, Joseph, Jonathan, James, Jr., Bethany, Elizabeth, Joshua, Jessica, Allison, Meredith; 30 great-grandchildren, Carter, Avery, Nicholas, Olivia, Samuel, Madeleine, Andrew, Megan, Andrew, Derek, Logan, Ryan, Connor, Erik, Kaylee, Cole, Collin, Riley, Nolan, Mackenzie, Taylor, Issac, Jaclyne, Erik, Brayden, Ava, Emma, Amelia, Aryanna, Quinn, and two on the way.  He is also survived by two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Annamae Purdy and Mildred Hemak; and Frederick Mathis; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He is predeceased by two sisters, Margaret Rhubart and Ruth McLane.

Robert was born on August 29, 1932 in Syracuse, NY, a son of the late Ray Wesley and Grace Saraphine Terrillion Archer.  He graduated from Lowville Academy in 1951.  Mr. Archer honorably served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1951 until 1953.  On August 2, 1952, he married Elizabeth H. Mathis at the Turin United Methodist Church parsonage, with Rev. Erwin B. Williams officiating.  Mr. Archer drove tractor trailer and worked for the Ford garage in Lowville before going to work for the Lewis County Highway Department.  Mr. Archer retired as Highway Superintendent on October 18, 1991, after 39 years of service.

Mr. Archer was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville.  He was a life member of B.P.O.E. #1605, Lowville Elks Lodge, and was a member of the Albany American Legion Post #0001.  He was a member of the American Road Builders Association, and was a supporter of Salesian Missions.

Robert enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He enjoyed planting trees and shrubbery and watching them grow.  Robert loved cooking and canning.  He was always generous to those in need.    Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
