BRANTINGHAM – Richard D. Levesque, 90, of Brantingham Road, Brantingham, passed away Friday night, May 19, 2017 in the comfort of his home and under the loving care of his family and Lewis County Hospice.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville, with Rev. Christopher Carrara, Pastor, officiating.  Burial with Military Honors will follow in Brantingham Cemetery.  Calling hours are from 12:30-1:30 p.m. on Thursday, prior to the funeral service, at the funeral home.  All are welcome to attend a gathering at the Pine Tree Inn, Brantingham, immediately following the burial.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lewis County Memorial Post #6912, VFW, 7752 West State Street, NY 13367 or Friends of Lewis County Hospice, P.O. Box 266, Lowville, NY 13367.

He is survived by three children, Linda and her husband Doug Smart of Dover, New Hampshire; David and his wife Mary Levesque of Sitka, Alaska; Claude Levesque and his companion Virginia of Clearwater, Florida; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Margaret Levesque of Lowville; Tom and Sue Levesque of Lyons Falls; Louis and Pat Levesque of Honeoye, NY; a sister, Patricia Watson of Glenfield; a sister-in-law, Lorene Lallier of Boonville; five grandchildren, Jeremy Smart; Carrie and her husband Stephen Portrie; Derek and his wife Amanda Levesque; Travis Levesque; Paul Levesque Jr.; three great-grandchildren, Zachary, DJ, and Grayson Levesque; and several nieces, nephews and cousins and a very large extended family on the Levesque side.  He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years, Marie who died on December 3, 2016; a son, Paul D. Levesque, who died in January of 2014; his father, Joseph Adelard Levesque and mother and step-father Julia and Pete Lallier; six brothers, Charles Levesque, Claude Levesque, Bernard Lallier, Paul Levesque, George Levesque and John Levesque; one sister, Marie L. Burnham.

Richard was born in Lyons Falls, NY on September 1, 1926, a son of the late Joseph Adelard and Julia Thiebeault Levesque.  He attended school in Lyons Falls and during that time worked for the Gould family.  Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army during WWII, serving as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne.  He then enlisted in the United States Coast Guard.  On December 26, 1951 he married Marie L. Gernard at The Cat’s Paw Hotel in Brantingham.  After serving 20 years in the United States Coast Guard the family returned to Brantingham, where he worked as a custodian for Lyons Falls School, as well as a Safety Inspector/Night Watchman for Georgia Pacific in Lyons Falls until his retirement in 1970.  Together with his wife they owned and operated The Country Store in Brantingham for over 50 years. 

He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Glenfield.  He helped establish the 3-G volunteer Fire Department in Brantingham, and was also a member of Lewis County Memorial Post #6912 VFW. 

He enjoyed foraging, tinkering, reading, history, geology, and had a passion for panning for gold.  Most of all, he loved fishing.
