BEAVER FALLS – Raymond L. Chartrand, 85, of Beaver Falls Road, passed away at his home on Wednesday afternoon, March 30, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.

A memorial service, with Military Honors, for family and friends will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville, with Pastor Bruce Chartrand officiating.  A gathering at the Croghan American Legion will immediately follow the Memorial Service.  Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Riverside Cemetery Annex. 

He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Dolores; his children, Renee and Jeffrey Duflo of New Bremen; Michelle and Robert Bowman of Beaver Falls; Stephen Chartrand and his companion, Tammy Widrick of Croghan; a sister-in-law, Barbara Chartrand of East Greenbush, NY; seven grandchildren, Brittney Duflo; Garrett Duflo and his wife, Ashley; Bryanne Bowman; Colby Bowman; Keegan Bowman; Brandon Chartrand; and Andrew Chartrand; nieces, nephews and cousins.  He is predeceased by his siblings, Florence McNamara; Gerald Chartrand; Clifford Chartrand; Angeline Holbrook; Rita Funda; Lawrence Chartrand; Paul Chartrand; and Francis Chartrand.

Raymond was born on November 6, 1930 in Indian River, NY, a son of the late Stephen and Myrtle Terry Chartrand.  He graduated from Lowville Academy in 1947, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1948 until 1952, serving for 11 months in Korea during the Korean War.  After his service, Mr. Chartrand worked for Lehman and Zehr Lumber and Zehr Lumber Company for over two years.  In 1955, he joined the Carpenter’s Union, Local 278, Watertown, NY, and worked on the St. Lawrence Seaway for a number of years.  On April 21, 1956, he married Dolores Mahar at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Indian River.  Mr. Chartrand then began his employment with Davis-Fetch Acoustical, Inc., Syracuse, where he worked for 39 years until his retirement in 1990.

Mr. Chartrand was a member of Beaver River Memorial Post #1663, American Legion, in Croghan.  He was a member of the Desert Swamp Hunting Club for 48 years.  Ray, affectionately known as “frog”, enjoyed hunting, fishing, entertaining family and friends at his camp on Frenchie Pond, and playing euchre at the Legion.
