Merial Lyng Jewett

WATERTOWN- Merial Lyng Jewett, 91, of NYS Route 3, Watertown, NY, passed away early Thursday morning, June 22, 2017 at her home, under the loving care of her family.

A funeral Mass will be said at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Watertown, with Rev. Jonas Tandayu, MSC, officiating.  Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery.  Calling hours are from 4 – 7 p.m. on Monday, June 26, 2017 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., 5702 Waters Road, Lowville.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Black River Ambulance Squad, 121 LeRay Street, Black River, NY  13612; or to the Croghan Fire Department, P.O. Box 405, Croghan, NY  13327.

She is survived by her two children, Katrina and James Salmons of Watertown; Patrick J. and Shari Lyng of Croghan; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.  In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, John F. Lyng; her second husband, Wallace Jewett; and by a brother, Emerson Yoder, Jr.

Merial was born on November 29, 1925 at home in Toy Town, Beaver Falls, NY, a daughter of the late Emerson Z. and Veronica Briggs Yoder.  She graduated from Beaver Falls High School in 1943.  Merial worked as a telephone operator during World War II.  On May 12, 1947, she married John F. Lyng at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Croghan.  Merial worked as a lunch monitor at Lowville Academy, and together with her husband owned and operated Lyng’s Mobil in Lowville for 17 years.  The couple moved to Watertown in 1975.  Mr. Lyng died on June 26, 1988.  She later married Wallace Jewett.  Mr. Jewett died April 5, 1999.

Merial was a communicant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a former communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lowville, a member of St. Therese’s Guild and Christian Women of Watertown.

She enjoyed sewing, knitting, cooking, and baking.  Merial enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She loved holiday get togethers with her family.
