Maudevlyn (Virkler) Farney

CASTORLAND-Mrs. Maudevlyn Farney, 93, died Monday, July 11, 2016, at Salemtowne Health Care where she resided. 

Maudevlyn was born on July 15, 1922, in Castorland, New York, the daughter of Grace and Nelson Virkler. She was a Lowville Academy graduate and then attended Oberlin College in Ohio as a voice major for two years. In 1944 she married the love of her life, Vernon Farney, to whom she was married for 71 wonderful years.  Together they traveled the United States and enjoyed living in and exploring many parts of our country before settling in Rochester NY to raise their family. She worked for the Lock Stock and Barrel gift shop in Rochester NY as a Sales Associate and was proud to be one of the national top sellers of Wilton Armetale products. After their retirement, Maudevlyn and Vern continued their adventure by following their grandchildren to Minnesota, then Maryland before finally settling in Winston Salem North Carolina. In Winston Salem they were members of Mount Tabor Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Virginia Virkler and her husband Vernon. She is survived by her son Alan Farney and wife Lisa of Winston-Salem; daughter, Andrea C. Farney (Ed Berzonsky) of Mt. Joy, PA; and three grandchildren: Caitlin, Connor, and Rhiannon Farney. 

A Viewing will be held Wednesday July 13 at 3:00 PM followed by a Memorial Service at 4:00 PM in the Smith Saal at Salemtowne Retirement Center, 1000 Salem Towne Dr., Winston Salem, with the Rev. Linda Browne officiating.  Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery Annex, Beaver Falls, New York with a graveside service at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 15, 2016 with the Reverend Bruce W. Chapman presiding.
