Marjorie H. (Howe) Ielfield

LOWVILLE – Marjorie Howe Ielfield, 81, of Brookside Circle, Lowville, passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 31, 2016 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Gregg and Julia Ielfield, under the care of her family and Lewis County Hospice. 

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 6, 2016, at the Lowville Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Pearson officiating.  Burial will be held at 4:00 p.m., following the service, in Hillside Cemetery, Champion.  There will be no calling hours.  Contributions may be made to Lowville Baptist Church, 7627 State Street, Lowville, NY 13367; or to Friends of Lewis County Hospice, P.O. Box 266, Lowville, NY  13367.

She is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, Scot Ielfield and his companion, Jill Hirschey of Lowville; Gregg and Julia Ielfield of Glenfield; Tina Ielfield of Rhinebeck; a brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Joan Howe of Gouverneur; a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Robert and Mary Lou Ielfield of South Carolina; Jane Brooks of Florida; nine grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.  She is predeceased by her husband, Mathew Reed “Ike” Ielfield, who died on April 16, 2016; a son, Ralph, who died in 1996; and by a sister-in-law, Virginia Fieldstadt.

Marjorie was born on February 17, 1935 in Watertown, NY, a daughter of the late Ralph and Mildred Staplin Howe.  The family lived in Antwerp, where Marjorie graduated from Antwerp High School in 1952.  She graduated from Canton State College with an Associate’s Degree in nutrition, and did a one year internship at Saratoga Hospital.  Marjorie worked as a dietician in Glens Falls before coming to work for Lewis County General Hospital as head dietician.  On September 8, 1956, she married Mathew R. Ielfield at Antwerp Methodist Church, with Rev. Tanner officiating.    Mrs. Ielfield later went to work for South Lewis Central School as a teacher’s aide, and finally took the position of School Lunch Manager, retiring in 1990.

Mrs. Ielfield was a member of Lowville Baptist Church.  She was past matron of the Turin Order of the Eastern Star, a member and past president of the Lewis County Food Service Association, a past member of the Valley Homemaker’s Association and Circle C, and a director and past president of the Chase Lake Shore Owner’s Association.

Marge enjoyed reading and playing cards.  Marge and Ike wintered in North Myrtle Beach, SC for 15 years.
