BRANTINGHAM – Marie L. Levesque, 83, of Brantingham Road, Brantingham, passed away Saturday morning, December 3, 2016, in the comfort of her home.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 9, 2016 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville, with Rev. Naomi Kelly, Pastor, officiating.  Burial will follow in Brantingham Cemetery.  Calling hours are from 11-1 on Friday, prior to the funeral service.  Family and friends are invited to attend a gathering at Pine Tree Inn following the burial.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lewis County Humane Society, P.O. Box 682, Lowville, NY 13367 or Friends of Lewis County Hospice, P.O. Box 266, Lowville, NY 13367.

She is survived by her husband Richard of 65 years; 3 children, Linda and her husband Doug Smart of Dover, New Hampshire; David and his wife Mary Levesque of Sitka, Alaska; Claude Levesque and his companion Virginia of Clearwater, Florida; 5 grandchildren, Jeremy Smart; Carrie and her husband Stephen Portrie; Derek and his wife Amanda Levesque; Travis Levesque; Paul Levesque Jr.; 3 great-grandchildren, Zachary, DJ, and Grayson Levesque, and a very large extended family on the Levesque side.  She is predeceased by a son, Paul D. Levesque, who died in January of 2014. 

Marie was born on January 12, 1933, a daughter of the late Claude and Elizabeth Records Gernard.  She grew up in logging camps in the Adirondacks and attended country school in Brantingham, Greig School, and graduated from General Martin School in 1950.  She went on to attend college at SUNY Oswego.  On December 26, 1951 she married Richard Levesque at The Cat’s Paw Hotel in Brantingham.  They then moved to Washington State where Richard served in the United States Coast Guard, and began raising their family together.  In 1965, Mr. Levesque retired from the Coast Guard and they returned to Brantingham.  They went on to own and operate The Country Store in Brantingham for over 50 years. 

Mrs. Levesque was a life member of Order of Eastern Star and a member of Brantingham Snowmobile Club.  She enjoyed knitting, sewing, and her true passion was making stuffed animals.  Most recently, she spent time volunteering and donating to Forest Funds.
