Lois (Beck) Cardinal

CROGHAN – Lois Cardinal, 79, formerly of George Street, passed away Tuesday morning, February 16, 2016 at the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility.

Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, February 19, 2016 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.  The funeral service will follow the calling hours at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Bruce W. Chapman officiating. Spring burial will be in Floyd Cemetery.  Contributions may be made to Croghan Fire Department, P.O. She is survived by five children, Bruce and Susan Cardinal of Croghan; Bonnie Cardinal and her husband, Mike Jones of Rome; twins, Richard and Kathleen Cardinal of Floyd, and Ronald and Carrie Cardinal of Beaver Falls; Nancy and David Markwart of Waterloo; four sisters, Celia and Lowell Virkler of Croghan; Helena and Herbert Clarke of Utica; Joyce Rowsam of Lowville; Darlene and Carl Lahah of Boonville; four sisters-in-law, Marilyn Beck of Santa Cruz, CA; Beverly Beck of Utica; Janet Beck of Croghan; Patricia Beck of Clark Mills; 23 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She is predeceased by her husband, Frederick, who died April 4, 1999; a daughter-in-law, Rose Cardinal; two great-grandchildren, Kyle Schieble and Jessica Jo Schieble; five brothers, Howard Beck, who died in infancy; Leslie Beck, Jr.; Robert Beck; James Beck; Louis Beck; three sisters who died in infancy, Sarah, Mildred, and Helena May Beck; and a sister, Sandra Beck, who died at age seven.

Lois was born on February 12, 1937 in Utica, NY, a daughter of the late Leslie Beck, Sr. and Harriet Crouse Beck.  She was raised on the Van Amber Road, Castorland, and graduated from Beaver River Central School.  On April 2, 1955, she married Frederick R. Cardinal at the Church of God in Naumburg, NY.  Mrs. Cardinal raised her family in Floyd, NY.   She graduated from Career Development Center School of Nursing in Utica in 1975.  Lois worked in Oriskany at the Eastern Star Home, the Bethany House in Rome, and then worked as a private duty nurse.  Mrs. Cardinal moved to Croghan in 1999.

Lois was a member of Croghan American Legion Auxiliary #1663.  She enjoyed going to garage sales and traveling with her very special friend, Francis Main.
