Genevieve J. Strife

LOWVILLE – Genevieve J. Strife, 98, of 5230 Clinton Street, died Saturday, January 30, 2016 at her home under the loving care of her family and Lewis County Hospice.    

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Iseneker Funeral home with Rev. David Herrmann, Pastor, officiating.  Calling hours will be held from 11:00 a.m.-1 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.  Spring burial in the Lowville Rural Cemetery. She is survived by three sons and daughters –in-law, Leonard Jr. and Carol Strife, of Lowville, William J. “Bill” and Pamela Strife, of Berea, Kentucky, and Ronald Strife and his fiancé Melissa Boyd of Taberg, and Kim Strife of Boonville; seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She is predeceased by her husband, Leonard, and three brothers, Edward, Chester and Stanley Adydan.

Genevieve was born on October 24, 1917 in Donora, PA, a daughter of the late John E. and Sabina N. Borachevitz Adydan.  She graduated from Lowville Academy in the class of 1937. She worked as a telephone operator in Lowville, and for Rome Cable during the war. She also worked for the Basket Factory and Kraft, both in Lowville.  On June 16, 1946, she married Leonard Strife at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. She raised her family and was a homemaker. She also took care of her mother for many years after her mother suffered a stroke, and until she passed away. Together with her husband, they enjoyed traveling. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.  She also enjoyed raising chickens and had a beautiful garden, as well as decorating her home. Genevieve was a longtime cancer survivor.
