Edward J. Wagler

LOWVILLE - Edward J. Wagler, 84, of Lanpher St., Lowville, passed away Friday evening, June 16, 2017, at Wilson Hospital, Johnson City, NY.

Calling hours will be from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. on Monday, June 19, 2017 at Naumburg Mennonite Church.  Private burial will be held in Naumburg Mennonite Cemetery.                      A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Naumburg Mennonite Church, with Pastors Titus Mast, Myron Roggie, and John Wagler, grandson, officiating.   Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.  Contributions may be made to Gideons International, P.O. Surviving are his wife of  more than 64 years, Rosemary; four sons, Wayne and Judy Wagler of Glenwood Springs, CO; Glenn and Ann Wagler of Richmond, VA; Robert and Angela Wagler of Southern Pines, NC; Randy and Patty Wagler of Rifle, CO; three sisters and their husbands, Mary Ellen and Mervin Good of London, Ontario, Canada; Lois and Carl Zehr, Carol and Kenneth Erb, all of Lowville; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He is predeceased by a brother, Glenn Wagler.

Edward was born on June 14, 1933 in Lowville, NY, a son of the late Jacob and Anna Roggie Wagler.  He attended country school at West Lowville and Lowville Academy. He worked on the family farm.  On October 23, 1952, he married Rosemary Martin at Croghan Mennonite Church with Rev. Lloyd Boshart officiating. He moved to Vermont and served 1W service at Brattleboro Retreat from 1955 until 1957.  Edward moved back to Lewis County and worked for John Mumford’s garage.  In November 1966 the couple bought the Hall farm in West Lowville.  He was a bus driver for Lowville Academy for 43 years.  The couple sold the farm in 1993, and moved to their current residence on Lanpher Street, in 1995.  They have a farm in Oxford, NY, that they have owned for many years, where Edward also drove school bus.  He was a proud member of Gideons International. He gave thousands of Bibles away through the Gideons.
