LOWVILLE- Donald Gary “Cokie” Robar, Sr. 83, formerly of Dayan Street, Lowville and Eustis, Florida passed away on Monday, January 4, 2021 at the home of his daughter, Diana Rhone, Ossont Road, Lowville.   

Due to Covid, services will be held at a later date and he will be buried beside his beloved wife, Betty, in Stark Cemetery, South Colton, NY at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lewis County Department of Social Services, Attention Foster Care, 5274 Outer Stowe Street, Lowville, NY 13367.

Donald is survived by his five children and their spouses: Rickey and Paula Morgan of Norfolk, Lori and Timothy Zehr Sr. of Carthage, Diana and Dwayne Rhone of Lowville, Donald Jr. and Lisa Robar of Glenville, Amber Kilmer of Lexington, NC; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, 3 siblings and their spouses: Frederick  “Hank” Robar and his companion Barb Upton of Potsdam Harry Robar of Madrid, Robert and Betsy Robar of Potsdam, and many nieces, nephews and cousins; and his beloved lap dog, Abby.

He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 52 years, Betty Joan Morgan Robar: three sisters: Wanda Fisher, Pauline Seaman, and Gloria “Linda” Oney; three brothers: Edward “Chick” Robar, Charles “Mike” Robar, and Jerry Joseph Robar

Donald was born on October 23, 1937 in Norfolk, New York a son of the late Fredrick and Lucille Dixson Robar. He graduated from Colton High School in Colton, NY and served in the U.S. Marine Corps.  On September 24, 1966 he married Betty Morgan Robar at the First Congregational Church of Madrid.  Mrs. Robar passed away on February 17, 2019.

Don worked for his mom at Robar’s Taxi in Potsdam and for his brother, Hank, at Robar’s Tire and Automotive in Potsdam. He was the owner of Rick’s Fall Island Sunoco Station in Potsdam.  He worked as a Supervisor for the New York State Department of Transportation for over 25 years. Don also worked for Walsh Trucking, Watertown.

Don was a member of Bethel Church of the Nazarene, Lowville. Together with his wife, they became Foster Parents and Registered Day Care Providers to many children in their home throughout Lewis County until 2005.  He was a member of the BPOE #1605, Lowville Elk’s Lodge. He loved to garden and was famous for his dill pickles. He also enjoyed his hobby farm and loved camping and canoeing. Most of all, he enjoyed his trips to various casino’s.
