MARTINSBURG - Mrs. Christina (Tiny) Schwartzentruber, 101, Route 26, passed away on October 18. 2016 at her home surrounded by her family and under the care of Lewis County Hospice.

She was born on July 31, 1915 in the Town of Martinsburg, the daughter of Andrew and Barbara (Streicher) Martin, and attended several country schools. On April 18, 1934 she married John M. Schwartzentruber at the Dadville Amish Mennonite Church (currently the Lowville Mennonite Church) with Bishop Chris Nafziger, officiating. Together, she and her husband owned and operated a farm on NYS Route 26 between Lowville and Martinsburg. Mr. Schwartzentruber died on May 24, 1976.

She is survived by three sons, Milford, Roger, and Nelson and his wife, Bernadine, all of Martinsburg. Three grandchildren, Eric Schwartzentruber, Dillsburg, PA, Carrie (David) Kanagy, Belleville, PA and John (Marika) Schwartzentruber, Martinsburg, and three great-grandchildren, Joshua, Sarah and Mary Kanagy, all of Belleville, PA, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a son, Allyn, who died on August 24, 1985, a brother Christian Martin and three sisters, Bertha Martin, Grace Martin, and Gertrude (Ezra) Schweitzer.

“Aunt Tiny,” as she was affectionately known by her friends and family, enjoyed raising house plants, knitting, crocheting and reading and spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed morning coffee at “Good Ol’ Wishy’s” in Croghan and accompanying Milford with the musical group, Down Home, before her failing health prevented her from attending these activities.

She was a member of the Pine Grove Mennonite Church, Naumburg, and the Martinsburg Historical Society.
