TURIN – Charles W. Watson, 83, of Houseville Road, passed away Monday, June 20, 2016 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Utica.

The funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville, with Rev. Canon Samuel P. Lundy officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be held in Old Glendale Cemetery.  A luncheon at the 3 – G Fire Department will immediately follow the burial.  A calling hour will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon on Saturday, prior to the funeral service, at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the 3 – G Fire Department, P.O. Box 112, Glenfield, NY  13345 or to the NYS Old Tyme Fiddlers’ Association, Inc., P.O. Box 24, Redfield, NY  13437.    

He is survived by his former wife, Patricia E. Watson of Glenfield; his children, Robert and Kristin Watson of Glenfield; Ronald W. Watson and his companion, Charlene “Charlie” Berrus of Lowville; Gail M. Watson of Turin; Rick and Kathie Watson of Brantingham; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Kaldowski of Brantingham; a brother and sister-in-law, Clifford and June Watson of Caribou, ME; two sisters, Winnifred Smith of Ohio; Beatrice Spinney and her companion, Simon Bemier of Limestone, ME; eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; many nieces, nephews and cousins.  He is predeceased by a daughter, Rita A. Schmitt, who died March 14, 2016; and three sisters, Marcella Doody, Bertha Levesque, and Thelma Wardwell.

Charles was born on May 15, 1933 in Caribou, Maine, a son of the late Robert D. and Sadie Tracy Watson.  He attended local schools in Maine, and enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 17, during the Korean War.  Corporal Watson served with the 2nd Armored Division in Korea and Germany.  After his discharge in 1953, he worked locally until 1956, when he began his employment with Gould Paper Company in Lyons Falls, where he worked until his retirement in 1998.  After his retirement, Charlie was a long-time caretaker for Lawton and Emily Williams of Turin.  A marriage to Patricia E. Levesque ended in divorce.

Charlie was a life member of Lewis County Memorial Post #6912, VFW and a life member of Lowville American Legion Post #162.  He was an active senior member of the 3 – G Volunteer Fire Department, Glenfield, an active member of the NYS Fire Police Association, and the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department Citizen’s Patrol.  Charlie was a member of the NYS Old Tyme Fiddlers’ Association, and enjoyed going to Osceola every Sunday, and listening to the fiddlers play.
