LOWVILLE - Cedric I. Freeman, 95, of Brookside Senior Living Community, Lowville, died Tuesday afternoon, February 18, 2014, at Lewis County General Hospital. Mr. Freeman was born on April 4, 1918 in the Town of Leyden, NY, a son of the late John and Edith Hall Freeman. He graduated from Boonville High School and Morrisville Technical College. On January 24, 1941, he married Margaret Drake at her home in Port Leyden, a marriage of 73 years. During World War II, Mr. Freeman served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific Theater for several years. For 40 years he was a watchmaker, and engaged in the jewelry business in Boonville as owner of Freeman’s Jewelry Store. After retirement the Freemans spent 13 winters at their home in Avon Park, FL and summers at their cottage at Brantingham Lake, NY. In 1990, the Freemans moved to Hershey’s Mill Retirement Community at West Chester, PA, where they lived for 12 winters before moving to Brookside. While living in Boonville, Mr. Freeman served on the school board and was active in the Methodist Church and Cub Scouts. He enjoyed the outdoors, golf, hunting and fishing, and was a charter member of The Boonville Ham Radio Club. He enjoyed building, and built several lakeside cottages in the area. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; three children, C. Randall Freeman and his wife Sharon of Houston, TX; Beverly “Bonnie” Poppleton and her husband Terry of York, ME; Nancy Freeman Jordan and her husband Dr. Robert Jordan of Thornton, PA; five grandchildren, Michelle Chumsae, Michael Poppleton, Pamela Jordan, Candice Sherman, and Faith Black; three great-grandsons, Miles Chumsae, Zane Chumsae, and Jack Poppleton. He is also survived by a nephew and three nieces. Mr. Freeman is predeceased by a sister, Helen Genzel. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., 5702 Waters Road, Lowville, with Rev. Jeff Ford, Pastor of Bible Fellowship Church, Lyons Falls, officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in Port Leyden Cemetery in the spring. The will be no calling hours. Per the family’s request, contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Lowville United Methodist Church, 7618 N. State Street, Lowville, NY 13367.
