Carl Christman

LOWVILLE – Carl Eugene Christman has set foot down in heaven.  On July 25, 2016, Carl peacefully passed away at home, with Lois, his bride of 72 years, by his side.  Carl and Lois resided in Lowville, NY the past 2 1/2 years at the home of their son, Curt, and his wife, Delite. Carl was born April 13, 1922 in Pottstown, PA., and the 7th of 13 children to Jacob and Edith Christman.   Carl is survived by his wife, Lois, daughter, Helen and husband, Dan Buckwalter of Homer, Alaska, son, Clarence, and wife Carol Christman of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and son, Curt, and wife, Delite Christman of Lowville, NY.  Carl has also left behind two sisters, 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

He went to work in his early teens and lived with a Mennonite family who took him in as their own. He was forever grateful for their kindness and credits the Mennonites for showing him the way to salvation through Jesus Christ. They became his mentors and lifelong friends. Through the generosity of a friends loan, he was able to purchase a farm near West Union, NY with the West Union Church on the corner of the property. He was the beloved pastor there for 23 years; he also served his community trucking cattle and was several years a dairy and beef farmer.  From 1979 - 2013 the couple resided in Sarasota, Florida, where they enjoyed the warm weather and being near Lois' family.  Carl loved people and served his community well. 

A Memorial Service will be at West Union Church, West Union NY on Saturday, August 27 at 2:00pm. There will be a meal served after the service and burial.
